Wild animals have had a very specific role in Finnish mythology and cultural heritage. Our ancestors respected nature and asked for help from animal spirits in challenging times. They shared playful poems, fables and creation stories about animals with their children and grand children, so that the new generations could understand and respect nature too.
One important place for storytelling has always been the sauna. People went to sauna with their family and several generations traditionally sharing the same steam. In the dark, quiet space the elders sang their songs and shared their stories while the young ones listened.Sauna was a sacred place, where magic could happen and the border between the worlds was open.
Our relationship with nature is key in creating a better future. Sauna Animals’ designs, products and stories is our playful way to reconnect people with nature.
