About the Creators, Reetta Ranta and Riikka Haro

We are two sisters, a visionary writer and a creative designer, born in Eastern Finland to a family of varied backgrounds – a mix of nomad spirited artistic father and a language teacher mother ever interested in learning new things. We were brought up with stories about small creatures, nature spirits and gnomes in Finnish nature, a mystical world painted by our father, whereas our mother set up an example of the importance of languages and expanding your world view by meeting people and how reading opens the way to new ideas and skills. With this heritage we create stories and products that draw their inspiration from Finnish nature, mythology and folktales.

Reetta
The writer and visionaire behind the Nordic Forest Rituals Oracle Cards is Reetta Ranta – a storyteller, coach, tv-producer and media entrepreneur. Reetta is known in Finland as the co-host, writer, and producer of the TV series Metsien Kätkemä (Back to Nature Finland, backtonature.tv). She has published non-fiction books, the most recent being Rituaalikirja – Timeless Nordic Rituals (SKS Kirjat, 2023). Reetta's next book, Sacred Trees (SKS Kirjat), will be released in the spring of 2025. Her passion lies in creating stories that connect people with nature, ancient wisdom, and self-reflection.

Riikka
Design and illustrations are made by Riikka Haro, in collaboration with cutting-edge generative AI tools from Midjourney and Adobe. Riikka is a seasoned graphic designer (MA) with extensive experience in a wide range of design projects, known for her strong visual vision and ability to excel in conceptual development and reliable execution. At Power Animals United, Riikka handles brand development, graphic design, and project execution for both her own and client projects, from brand identity creation to book layouts and illustrations.

Saunaeläinten tarina | The Story of Sauna Animals

With this heritage we create stories and products that draw their inspiration from Finnish nature, mythology and folktales.

We invite you to our magical world where wisdom of the past generations, beauty of the Finnish nature and spirits of the forest spark imagination, inspiration and joy.

Sauna Animals shop

Sauna animals was born out of Finnish folk tales and forest mythology – first as separate ideas: we explored sauna rituals and on the other hand animal mythology in the Finnish folk tales. Combining the sauna and the forest animals happened naturally – the steam, the spirit of the sauna took the shape of an animal. And so the Sauna Animals came to be, also as a shop.

The stories of Sauna Animals products are written by Reetta – a human animal inspired by myths and the ancient connection between nature and man. In their dreams the magnificent deer run tall and free. The shape of the products have been found by Riikka – a designer and illustrator of forest and steam spirits. In their dreams the bears are playful and only a little scary.

Sauna Animals -kauppa

Saunaeläinten idea syntyi tarinoista ja metsästä – ensin erillisinä ideoina: saunaan liittyvien rituaalien ympärille kehiteltynä Sauna Sisters -tapahtumina sekä voimaeläinten ja suomalaisten kansantarinoiden innoittamina tuotteina. Saunan ja metsäneläinten yhdistyminen tapahtui luontevasti, saunan löylyn henget alkoivat saada eläimen muodon.

Sauna Animals tuotteiden tarinat kirjoittaa Reetta, myyteistä ja luonnon ja ihmisen ikiaikaisesta yhteydestä inspiroitunut ihmiseläin jonka unissa hirvet juoksevat mahtavina. Eläinten ja tuotteiden muodon on löytänyt Riikka, graafinen suunnittelija ja metsän- ja löylynhenkien kuvittaja jonka unien karhut ovat leikkisiä ja vain vähän pelottavia.
