Digital download: Crocheting instructions for the Viking inspired hood
The rectangular part of the hood was originally the hem of an unfinished cotton cardigan. But when Reetta needed a hood, it was modified after a little ideation. The shape of the hood was inspired by a simple fabric Viking hood found in Skjöldehamn (The discovery of Sköldehamn dates back to about 1050-1090 AD).
The hood pattern can easily be applied to different sizes and yarns, as the shape is a simple rectangle. A small decorative border is crocheted on the bottom edge of the hood and on the back, and the fit is adjusted at the neck with a cord.
Materials needed
You need a crochet hook (3,5-4 mm according to the gauge) and approximately 450g of suitable yarn (200g for the main color, 100g for red and 50g for the three pattern colors). Repurposed cotton yarns were used originally, for the instructions we used cotton and bamboo blend yarns available in the local shop (approx 50 g = 80m).
